Protect the Space

Lay drop sheets on all floors

→ Canvas on hard floors; poly in doorways. Overlap edges — no gaps.

Cover all furniture with poly or drop sheets

→ Nothing uncovered near spray or roller areas. Tuck edges under legs.

Cover every outlet, switch & cover plate

→ Painter's tape or low-tack covers. Every one in the work zone.

Remove or protect artwork, mirrors & fixtures

→ If it comes off the wall safely, take it down. If not, wrap it.

Walk the Site

Check for tripping hazards

→ Cords, thresholds, clutter. Move them or flag to the team.

Open windows or set up fans

→ Air needs to be moving before you open any paint or primer.

Check surfaces — note anything unusual

→ Peeling, stains, cracks, wet patches? Tell your supervisor before prepping.

Confirm paint colour & product match the job order

→ Check the can label. Wrong colour = wasted day. When in doubt, ask first.

Surface Prep & Priming

Complete before applying any finish coat

⚠ Safety First

! Sanding drywall? N95 respirator on — no exceptions.

! Keep ventilation running the entire time you're sanding or priming.

Clean the Surface

Wipe all surfaces with a damp cloth

→ Remove dust, grease, and grime. Paint won't stick to a dirty wall.

Treat visible stains or nicotine areas

→ Stain-blocking primer on those spots first — stains bleed through.

Treat any mould or mildew

→ Diluted bleach solution, fully dry before proceeding. Never paint over active mould.

Repair Defects

Fill all holes and dents

→ Lightweight spackle for small holes. Thin coats — don't glob it on.

Tape and compound any cracks

→ Mesh tape + joint compound. Feather the edges flat.

Re-drive nail pops, then compound over them

→ Set the nail first, then two thin coats of compound on top.

Caulk gaps at trim, baseboards & casings

→ Smooth bead, tool with a wet finger. Clean lines only.

All compound fully dry before sanding

→ Cool to the touch means it's not ready. Don't rush this.

Sand & Dust

Sand all patched areas flush and smooth

→ 120-grit to level, 150-grit to finish. Run your hand over it — no ridges.

Scuff-sand any glossy existing paint

→ 150–180 grit. Primer needs something to grip.

Remove all dust before priming

→ Tack cloth on every surface. Vacuum floors and trim. Dust causes fish-eyes.

→ Consistent strokes, overlapping passes. Raking light to check coverage.

Light sand if surface feels rough after priming

→ 220-grit, then tack cloth again. Smooth primer = smooth finish.

! Never leave open paint containers near children, pets, or heat.

Before You Open the Can

Confirm colour & sheen match the job order

→ Read the label every time. Wrong sheen on a ceiling is a full redo.

Stir paint for 2–3 full minutes

→ Stir stick, don't shake. Box multiple cans together before starting.

Masking tape is clean and straight

→ Tape is your quality control. Crooked tape = crooked lines.

All drop sheets still in place

→ Check before every session — not just at the start of the day.

Coat 1

Cut in edges first with a brush

→ 2–3 inch band along all edges, corners, and trim before rolling.

Roll in a consistent W or N pattern

→ Keep a wet edge. Don't let edges dry before blending in.

Back-light for missed spots

→ Hold a lamp at an angle. Touch up thin areas while paint is still wet.

Check for drips 5–10 minutes after rolling

→ Stroke out runs gently with a brush before they skin over.

Wait the full recoat time before Coat 2

→ It's on the can. Don't rush — early Coat 2 causes lifting.

Coat 2

Lightly sand any nibs or brush marks from Coat 1

→ 220-grit, then tack cloth. Smooth base = smooth finish.

Apply Coat 2 at the same pace as Coat 1

→ Consistent speed and pressure = consistent sheen.

Check for full hiding — no bleed-through

→ Raking light test. Still see old colour? Tell your supervisor before moving on.

Clean any paint off trim or unintended surfaces

→ Damp cloth, right now. Much easier wet than dry.

Tape Off & Final Look

Remove tape while paint is slightly tacky

→ Pull at 45° away from the painted surface. Slow and steady.

Inspect all edges after tape removal

→ Touch up any bleeds with a fine brush. No ragged lines — period.

Final raking light inspection of every wall

→ Step back. Look for sheen inconsistency, missed areas, texture issues.

Completion & Cleanup

Quality Final Check

Walk every surface — nothing missed

→ Ceilings, walls, trim, accents. Everything in scope is painted.

Raking light on every wall

→ Drips, uneven sheen, thin spots — fix them now, before the client sees them.

All edges and cut-in lines are crisp

→ Touch up with a fine brush wherever needed. Clean lines are our standard.

No drips, runs, or sags anywhere

→ Sand flush and touch up. Check corners and baseboards carefully.

Hardware and fixtures reinstalled

→ Switch plates, outlet covers, door hardware — all back in place.

Full Site Cleanup

Remove all drop sheets and poly

→ Check underneath every sheet for drips before folding.

Remove all tape and masking

→ Every strip. Check for residue left behind and remove it.

Clean any paint spots off floors

→ Walk every floor. Latex = damp cloth; oil-based = mineral spirits.

Return furniture to original position

→ Lift, don't drag. Check legs haven't scratched freshly painted trim.

Collect all tools and equipment

→ Brushes, rollers, trays, ladders, poles. Nothing left on-site.

Label leftover paint cans & leave for client

→ Write: colour, code, sheen, room, date. Leave them neatly.

Final sweep or vacuum of all work areas

→ Leave it cleaner than you found it. That's the Walls Revived standard.

→ Walk every painted surface with the client. Address any questions on the spot.

3-year warranty explained to client

→ Advise client of Walls Revived's 3-year labour warranty and how to reach Leann.

Touch-up process explained
